Me and My Shadow
In November 2021, the painter, sculptor and puppeteer, Jonathan Hayter, exhibited a wide range of works including puppets he designed and made, selected examples of his early shadow puppet/animation projections, sculptures and landscapes. Me and My Shadow show cased Hayter’s creative output from the last two decades of his career.
Thoughts Fall Like Raindrops
In 2019 Amanda Lorens produced a single screen video, Under Darkness, followed by a video installation Night Song in 2020. I was very interested in how Amanda had captured the trauma and enigma of insomnia with such poignance and evocation based on her own experience.
Second Nature
The London based artist collective, Changeable Beast (25 artists and 4 guest artists), brought their ambitious site-specific exhibition Second Nature to Tremenheere, offering the viewer an opportunity to see it from a new perspective.I had the opportunity to catch up with the lead curator, Tessa Garland, who explained how Changeable Beast and Second Nature have evolved over time and how her long-established relationship with Tremenheere is very much part of that trajectory.
Tough Dough
The aim of my collaboration with Tough Dough’s Message Sent, was to complement and contextualise the creative exchanges that evolved out of the project. By exploring the potential of dialogue in all its forms, the intention was to develop an opportunity to examine how the experience of living through a national lockdown had impacted the lives of artists/makers and their practices and where such a challenge had led them. Artists in Conversation
In July 2014, I attended the Soil Culture Forum hosted by Falmouth University over a period of four days at the Woodlane campus. The 90+ delegates, who attended focused on how the arts could help to raise awareness and an appreciation for the plight of global soils. The Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW) initiated 12 Soil Culture artist residencies, which took place across the South West
